With the universal changes that have occurred over the past weeks regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, undoubtedly you will have been impacted and affected in some way or another whether it be directly or indirectly. We are all feeling this. These are stressful times, and it is natural to feel anxious, overwhelmed and even scared.

But please remember that while we do not have control over the restrictions, social distancing and social isolation being imposed on us - to stop the spread of this virus- we do have control over how we respond to it.

So stop 🛑 take a deep breath and then breathe out slowly and say to yourself “RELAX”. Is there anything that I can do at this moment and time that will help, if there is, do it (without rushing), but if there isn’t, work on practicing Acceptance (this means that while you may not like it - it is what it is). Taking one hour at a time and one day at a time, set yourself a goal, keep to a routine as much as possible, focus on what we do have - accept what we don’t. Chose to eat well, practice mindfulness, go for a walk, (we can still do this with 1 other person that is not from our household- practicing social distancing from each other) Play a board game, bake, set up a Zoom party with your friends online (it’s a great way to stay connected) learn a new language, find new online activities, practice and learn to meditate, go out into the garden, play or learn to play a musical instrument) the list of what you could do is open to you.

If you need to go out for essentials, smile and say hello - you never know you might just make that persons day by doing this (and your own) - studies show that smiling releases endorphins, natural painkillers, and serotonin. Together these 3 neurotransmitters make us feel good from head to toe.

For those of you who are wondering if we are still open and here to support you - yes we are, as we are an essential health service - and we have applied social distancing and stringent hygiene practices within our offices. There are also other platforms to help support you if you are in isolation or unable to get out and we are happy to discuss these with you. Please know that your mental health and personal sense of well-being is important to us and we are doing our best to provide support in these changing times - Together we will get through this, by taking one day at a time and if you need help please don’t hesitate to reach out to us or call Mel at the front desk - who can answer any questions you might have. Take care everyone and stay safe.

Warm Regards

Kaylene and all of the staff at Steps 4 Success.
